An Unexpected Detour: The Full Story of Our Journey Home ❤️

Hi everyone, Bob and I wanted to share an important update with you all. While we've been busy exploring and having fun on our Eastern Sierra adventure, something has been happening behind the scenes that we felt it was time to talk about. ❤️

A Routine Screening

This new, unexpected journey for us began with something very routine. Before we left for our trip, I (Dang) had my annual screening mammogram. That initial screening led to a call for a follow-up appointment due to something called "architectural distortion".

We scheduled a follow-up, which included another diagnostic mammogram and a full breast ultrasound. That’s when the situation became more serious. The ultrasound found an irregular mass. The radiologist explained that it was categorized as BI-RADS 4B, which means there was an "intermediate suspicion of malignancy," and they recommended an ultrasound-guided biopsy to know for sure.

Waiting for News on the Road

After the biopsy was complete, we were faced with a waiting period for the results. We decided that the best thing for us was to head to the mountains as planned, knowing that whatever the news, we would have time to react.

It was while we were on the road, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra, that we received the call. The final result confirmed that the spot is precancerous. This was the best possible news we could get under the circumstances! It is not cancer, but it is made up of abnormal cells that need to be removed before it has a chance to become a bigger problem.

Our Decision and the Path Forward

When we received the news, our first priority was to get a consultation scheduled with a surgeon. Once that appointment was set for a future date, we made the decision to continue our adventure until the day before my appointment. We are so glad we did, as it gave us more time to explore and enjoy the beautiful Eastern Sierra.

Now that we're back home 🏠 , we are getting everything in order for the upcoming surgery. I am currently in pre-op appointments, and the operation is scheduled to happen within the next few weeks. We're just focusing on the present moment and staying positive through this process.

A Gentle Reminder

We decided to share this very personal news in the hope that it encourages all the women in our community to stay on top of your regular health check-ups. We also hope you'll spread the word to the important women in your life. As we're learning firsthand, catching an issue early can make all the difference.

The Adventure Continues Online!

And on a final, more cheerful note, our Eastern Sierra journey will continue online! We are currently working on the next video, which will feature our adventures in the beautiful Rock Creek area. We expect to have it ready to go live next weekend, so please stay tuned! 🎥

Thank you all so much for your kindness and support. We can't tell you how much we appreciate it, and it gives us so much strength. We will be sure to keep you updated on this new, unexpected journey as we navigate the next steps. For now, we're taking it one day at a time.

With love and gratitude,

Dang and Bob

A Challenging Hike in Big Pine Creek: We Had to Turn Back

Our next Eastern Sierra video is live, and this one tells the story of an adventure that didn’t quite go as planned. The Big Pine Creek area is home to some of the most breathtakingly beautiful high-altitude scenery in California, and we were so excited to get out on the trail and explore.

Our goal for the day was to hike the North Fork of Big Pine Creek Trail up to the stunning alpine lakes. We started out full of energy, surrounded by incredible views of the granite peaks, beautiful waterfalls, and the crystal-clear creek. The trail is known for being difficult, but we were ready for a good challenge.

As we gained elevation, the hike became more and more strenuous. It was a beautiful day, but the combination of the altitude and the steep, rocky terrain was incredibly challenging. We pushed ourselves, but eventually, we reached a point where we had to stop and assess the situation.

Every hiker knows that one of the most important skills is knowing your limits. For us, on this day, we had to make the tough but responsible decision to turn back before reaching our final destination. It's always disappointing, but safety is the number one priority, and sometimes the mountain lets you know when it's time to head down.

Even though we didn't "complete" the hike, it was still an incredible day filled with unforgettable scenery. Sometimes the journey is more about the experience than the destination. We hope you enjoy sharing this very real and challenging adventure with us!

Watch the full story in the video above and let us know in the YouTube comments if you've ever had to make a tough decision on the trail!

The Road Had a Different Plan for Us ❤️

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share an important update on our Eastern Sierra adventure. As some of you have seen, we’ve been having a wonderful time exploring, but the road has had a different plan for us, and we’ve had to press pause on our travels for a little while.

We are currently heading home to take care of an important and unexpected personal health matter that needs our full attention.

While we are of course disappointed to be stepping away from our journey for now, we are approaching this with hearts full of hope and positivity. This is a necessary detour, but it's one we are ready to face. We plan on sharing more details here on the blog when we have a clearer update for you, hopefully sometime next week.

The good news is that we have so many beautiful memories and a lot of amazing footage from our time in June Lake, Mammoth, and the White Mountains. We are excited to continue editing and sharing those adventures with you online very soon!

For the friends we had plans to meet up with along the road, please know we are so sad to miss you. We're still hoping to see you and will be in touch directly to coordinate if anything changes.

Thank you, as always, for being part of our journey, through all of its twists and turns. We appreciate your support and understanding more than we can say.

With gratitude,

Dang (and Bob)

Our Eastern Sierra Adventure Begins: Family, Fishing & Fun at June Lake!

The wait is over, and a new adventure begins! 🥳 We are so thrilled to announce that the very first video from our Eastern Sierra trip is going LIVE this Labor Day morning, Monday, September 1st, at 8 AM PT. It feels wonderful to kick off a new chapter of travels with you all.

This first video is a really special one for us. We were lucky enough to have some of our family join us to kick off the trip, including our son, Tan. A friendly fishing competition quickly became the main event of their visit, and we had an absolute blast seeing who could catch the biggest (and the most!) fish in beautiful June Lake! 😉

Beyond the fishing, we'll take you to our beautiful boondocking spot on Bald Mountain Road and share our adventures exploring the stunning June Lake Loop. The days were filled with scenic hikes, fun off-roading, and lots of laughs around the campsite.

Starting this new journey surrounded by family in such a gorgeous place was the perfect beginning. We had so much fun making this video and can't wait to share it with you.

We hope you'll tune in on Monday morning to join the fun! Let us know what you think in the YouTube comments.

Standing with Giants: Exploring the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest 🌲⛰️

Our Eastern Sierra adventure has taken a turn off the beaten path and high into the sky! We’ve journeyed into the starkly beautiful White Mountains, setting up camp at Grandview Campground at a dizzying elevation of over 10,000 feet. The air is thin, the stars are brilliant, and the inhabitants are some of the oldest living things on Earth. ✨

The main reason for our visit here was to explore the incredible Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. The photo above gives you a glimpse,

but it's hard to put into words what it feels like to stand next to these gnarled, resilient trees. They are true survivors, thousands of years old, clinging to life in an unforgiving environment. We spent hours walking the trails in absolute awe and even went on a search for the famously ancient tree known as Methuselah—a humbling experience to be in the presence of such history.

The adventure didn't stop with the trees. The surrounding landscape is rugged and beautiful, and we enjoyed hiking several other trails in the area. We also had a great time taking the truck out for some fun 4x4 off-roading on the mountain roads, exploring the vast, open spaces. 🚙

The White Mountains are a truly unforgettable place, a perfect blend of natural history and rugged beauty. We're having a wonderful time capturing it all and can't wait to share it in a future video! 🎥
